March Madness Has Begun!

The Clemson Tigers Men’s Basketball team head down to Tampa, FL for the first round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. This will be just the fifth meeting between Clemson and West Virginia on the basketball court and the Mountaineers hold a 3-1 lead in the series that dates to the 1951-52 season. The Tigers last win over the Mountaineers dates back to the 1994 NIT Tournament. The 1994 NIT win over West Virginia was the final victory for Cliff Ellis at Clemson. He had announced his resignation effective at the end of the season on January 6, 1994. Clemson lost its next game in the NIT quarterfinals at Vanderbilt. Seventeen years later, Ellis is still coaching, now at Coastal Carolina. For more game notes; click here.

Clemson vs UAB Game Watch

Clemson vs UAB

It’s Game Time

The Tigers will travel to Dayton, OH to take on UAB in the first round of the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tourney. This will be the third meeting in history between the Tigers and Blazers. UAB holds a 2-0 advantage, with the most recent game coming in the 2004 Rainbow Classic in Hawaii. Currently, UAB holds a 2-0 advantage of the Tigers. Clemson Head Coach Brad Brownell will be making a return trip to Dayton, the same city he spent the previous four years as head coach at Wright State. Brownell led the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in 2006-07, his first season at the school. In fact, he has now taken each of his three schools (UNC Wilmington, Wright State and Clemson) to the NCAA Tournament in his first season at each school. As Brownell returns the March Madness, the Tiger’s Senior Class will be making its fourth straight appearance. Clemson looks to build on it’s success of the season and they are looking for their first win in the “Big Dance” since 1997 as that team made it to the Sweet 16.

So come on out and hang out with Tiger Fans in the Tri-State area. The Tiger Nation needs your help to cheer them on to victory.

Find Your Seat.

Fairwell To The Ship!

Our Fools, September 2007

An era is coming to an end. The Ship will be shuttering its doors on April 4th, 2011; but don’t be alarmed, they are just changing ports.  The NYC & Tri-State Area Clemson Club’s home away from home for more then six years will be moving locations. As many of you know, lots of memories have been made at The Ship and we are pretty sad to hear about the location change. As a whole, we have seen the addition of huge HDTVs, designated sitting in the front and even the addition of chairs under the awnings outside. I still remember the cool brisk autumn air during October while sitting on the patio before our “beloved” noon games. The NYC & Tri-State Area Clemson Club has been integrated into the history of The Ship, we have photos on their site.

Here is a little history, from their site, of Ship of Fools.

Ship of Fools opened in 1996. Glenn and I (Owen) took our hard earned life savings (and several loans!!) and started a local pub and grill. We named it after the pirate ship from a British comic strip because the layout of the space was so long and thin it resembled a ship’s deck. Little did we know that some days, the name is stunningly appropriate!

Since then, we have gotten married, had 2 kids of our own, love and enjoy 2 kids from Glenn’s previous marriage (as well as 2 grandkids now!!) And every year, we strive to make our place better.

When we first opened, we noticed that several neighborhood people were asking about a place to watch multiple sporting events at the same time, so we got a couple of satellite receivers and the rest, as they say, is history. Four tv’s became ten, ten became Twenty and the latest tally is 48 !!!

We are currently planning a Set Sail event for Ship of Fools some time during the end of March. So please check back for more information as the Fairwell to The Ship draws closer.

PS. The new location will be in Midtown.

Clemson vs Virginia Tech Basketball Game Watch

Clemson vs Virginia Tech

As the Winter and Basketball season comes to a close, the Tigers will be taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies for the last regular season game of the year. The Hokies will travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers for what could possibly the a big battle in the ACC. Last year the the Hokies downed the Tigers 70 to 59.

As we have done in the past this will be a joint viewing party with the Manhattan Hokies Virginia Tech Alumni Club. We want to show the Hokies who’s boss, so come out with your orange on and enjoy some good eats, cold drinks and some trash talking with some other ACC folks.

The Village Pourhouse – Tipoff on 3/5/11 at 12pm
64 Third Ave @ 11th St., New York, 10003

Please RSVP via email or on our Facebook page.
